CLUB NEWS

Some history of the Horse drawn tram.

Horses are part of the community, they’re owned by the Victor Harbor council.

The service is the last horse-drawn tram in Australia, with the original tramway dating back to 1894.

The service was revived in 1986 to mark 150 years since South Australia was founded and is a popular tourist attraction.

The tram would operate limited rides and would close the service entirely in poor weather to allow the remainder of the group to rest.

When the tram rides are not operating, the community is welcome to book a visit to the new stable site at Victor Harbor.

Victor Harbor & Port Elliot Lions Club members are saddened to read that Isabella in the above image, has had to be euthanised after being infected with Ross River virus.

Sadly Isabella who is immune-compromised already, she had CPL which is a chronic progressive lymphedema.

In Isabella’s case she was very unwell and stopped eating. Isabella always ate everything in sight.

RIP beautiful lady

Elliot in the above image has also fallen ill with the same virus. Elliot had swelling of the sheath, lethargic and wasn’t feeling himself or energetic as usual.

He is past the worse of the virus and is coming good, but his fitness now is down.

Six other horses had tested positive to antibodies, but were not symptomatic.

These beautiful Clydesdales are loved by the Victor Harbor community and beyond.
